Alright, let's get back to this sunrise surprise...
Banff National Park
Kevel messaged me many moons ago, from the UK, to plan a surprise proposal for their trip to Canada. His main thing was that he wanted a beautiful lake and a mountain in the background, so I sent him a bunch of options, he picked his fave and then we started planning from there! He chose Lake Minnewanka in the eastern area of Banff, Canada. Lake Minnewanka is definitely underrated and so stunning let me tell you! Originally, we had planned for me to be a creeper in the bush, take photos and then peace out. He just wanted the moment to be captured and have photos later that evening to show her. Everything was set, game plan in place and was executed perfectly until the very last step. Unfortunately, we had gotten so much rain that the lake was to high and you could no longer get to the spot we wanted. So I had to think on my feet and quick! We ended up going to a different spot, which, thankfully, worked out perfect BUT now I couldn't be the creeper in the bush taking photos, ha-ha! So I did what I usually do, which I won't share here because I don't need other couples knowing my tricks haha Needless to say the scene was just so BEAUTIFUL. Gosh. The smoke from the wildfires created this really beautiful haze and ugh it was SO DREAMY! It was a beautiful, beautiful sunrise!
Surprise Proposal Decoration Ideas
Some people go all out with decorations for their engagement, but what better way to decorate than with the beauty of the outdoors! Lake Minnewanka was the perfect location! There was literally no one around (okay one guy of in the distance fishing), unlike other popular places like Moraine Lake. I've done a ton of surprise proposals there but the logistics behind Moraine Lake is just absolutely crazy! We're so blessed as there are so many beautiful places in the Rocky Mountains to have a surprise proposal. Moraine Lake is iconic, but it can be stressful to make the logistics work for a time of day that provides beautiful light for photos. I always want to make sure that your photos are fun and easy.
Dhara was...to say shocked is an understatement! She was literally telling people before their trip that she was not getting engaged, because Kevel has an older sister and in their culture she needed to get engagement first before he was allowed to. He was able to clear it with his sister and she was fine with Kevel proposing to Dhara. In short, she was completely blown away when he proposed and the location choice added to the perfection! They've been together for a long hot while, so it definitely was about time! They were both so excited and SO adorable together.
After Kevel proposed we ended up getting to do a mini photoshoot! Once we finished up their photoshoot they continued on their trip throughout Canada, heading up to Jasper for a few days and then over to Vancouver before flying back to the UK. I'm so excited, blessed and thankful that I got to be part of their surprise proposal. I wish them all the best as they enter the adventure of marriage together!
