Winter Engagement Photos Outdoors in Calgary, AB

Are you recently engaged? We always find when the weather gets a little chilly, more couples commit to spending a lifetime underneath the couch blankets together. Something about a new year also makes you take a look at your relationships, and making some of them a little more permanent with a shiny new ring. I am so excited to share Belanna and Jarret's winter engagement photos in Calgary with you today because these two have been in love for a long time. When I asked when they first fell in love, they both agreed it was their first date. They kept figuring out "what to do next" and the first date was over ten hours long. It was just comfortable. Needless to say, as a Calgary wedding photographer, I love to photograph love. In Canada, that usually means throwing on a winter jacket and taking engagement photos in the snow!

A Winter Engagement (and an heirloom ring from his Grandmother)

Jarret had the engagement ring for a year before proposing. It wasn't a lack of commitment that made him wait - he had already given Belanna a promise ring from his Grandmother. Like any man in love, he wanted to make the moment was just right. Almost a year after securing the wedding ring (which was a family heirloom, also his Grandmother's), he finally decided he would do it at one of their favorite places to hike - Grassi Lakes (near Canmore in the Rocky Mountains). They planned a sunrise hike and even though he tried to subtly drop to one knee, his knee made a loud crack and gave it away! Needless to say, the rest is history.

Calgary Engagement Photos

I love taking engagement photos. One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer, is really connecting with my couples and bringing out their personalities, and letting them have fun together while I take their photos. I never want them to feel too posed. Of the two of them, Belanna is more outgoing and Jarret always knows just what to say to make her laugh. I really wanted to capture what a perfect team they made on camera and I think the winter engagement photos below do just that!
